When Selena Gomez isn’t busy filming Only Murders in the Building or launching a new Rare Beauty product or making new music or—you get where I’m going with this—she’s an at-home chef. It’s true, Sel is a multifaceted woman who seems to display an almost superhuman ability to get sh*t done. However, she is only human. It’s what makes the moments of slowing down in her life all the more important and finding joy in the kitchen all the stronger. The singer recently teamed up with cookware brand Our Place to launch a second Our Place x Selena Gomez limited-edition collection (the first release was stunning too, in case you missed it), available online now, and it’s a nod to not only her Latinidad but her self-care practice as well.

Introducing the two new Always Pan colorways: Cielo (a soft sky blue with gold hardware) and Tierra (a muted earthy brown with gold hardware). You’re sure to have seen the coveted cookware on your IG feed at one point or another, and these colors are even more Instagrammable, if that’s possible. The 10-in-1 pan has been praised by many for its versatile function that allows you to jump from one task to another. It braises, sears, steams, strains, sautés, fries, boils, and much more—all while looking good too.

As the names suggest, Selena and Shiza Shahid (who cofounded Our Place alongside her husband Amir Tehrani) share that it’s meant to be a reminder to connect with the earth. “In our last collaboration, we launched [the colorways] Azul and Rosa, which were these really beautiful bold, bright colors and we love them so much,” Shahid tells Cosmo. “[This time] we wanted to offer a different side of Our Place and a different side of Selena, so these colors are a little bit more neutral but are still really fun and exciting and we felt are perfect for summer.”

Additionally, Shahid shares that beyond just feeling grounded by the sky and earth, “it empowers and liberates you,” much as cooking does. As an added touch, the two made the decision to add gold accents to these limited-edition pieces, something they’ve never done before, to make it feel “even more special.”

Below, Cosmo caught up with Selena to chat about her partnership with Our Place, her favorite meals to make at home, and the music she plays to get in the zone.

With your first collaboration with Our Place, you were able to become a part of so many people’s kitchens everywhere. How does the relationship between people and cooking manifest in your own life?

Thank you. I’ve loved designing my new Our Place collection, which has everything you need to learn how to cook for yourself at home. The Always Pan, Perfect Pot, and Oven Pan are designed to make cooking at home easier and way more fun. For me, cooking is simply about being present in the moment and sharing food I love with the people I love.

I love that these new colors, Cielo and Tierra, are named after the sky and earth. How does cooking help you stay grounded and connected to the world we live in?

I chose Tierra and Cielo—earth and sky—because cooking is both grounding and freeing. Learning to cook has taught me that it’s not about perfection, it’s about trying new things, learning, while having fun.

As a fellow Latina, I have so many memories cooking with my abuela—and I know you have similar experiences with your own grandparents. What’s a childhood dish that’s near and dear to you?

One of my favorite childhood dishes is my nana’s chicken and dumplings—it always reminds me of home.

On your Max show Selena + Chef, you put yourself in front of some of the best chefs and follow along. What advice would you have for beginner cooks or anyone who might get intimidated in the kitchen?

I partnered with Our Place because of their mission and because their cookware makes cooking easier and more joyful. Through this new collection, I want to encourage every kind of cook, whether beginners or experts, to have fun cooking imperfectly and to get messy and have fun doing it. Being yourself is what I think cooking at home should be all about!

What’s the meal you usually make when you’re in need of some comfort food?

I love my nana’s pasta. It’s so simple and nourishing—a mix of Italian sausage, lots of veggies, spaghetti, Parmesan, olive oil, and extra garlic. You can’t mess it up, and it’s made even easier in the Always Pan!

Of course, Our Place’s kitchenware is meant to be shown off. What was your favorite dinner party you ever hosted? What was the meal and who were the loved ones you got to cook for?

The people around my table are usually my best friends and my close family. I love to bring together the people I love, whether it’s to celebrate an occasion or just to be together over a good, home-cooked meal. I also love cooking for the holidays—I keep it festive but relaxed.

While cooking brings people together, it’s also a good opportunity to unwind solo. Do you like playing music or watching a show in the background while you cook? If so, what?

Music is always playing in my house. When I am cooking, I usually like a certain vibe. Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald are some of my favorites to listen to while cooking.
