9 Triceratops Sex Positions That Are Roaringly Delightful
Especially if you're into BDSM. 👀
If you’re into BDSM (or BDSM-adjacent) sex, put the triceratops position on your short list. “The triceratops sex position is great for those who like to be dominated by their partner, which is a very common fantasy,” says clinical sexologist Avril Louise Clarke, the intimacy coordinator at ethical and cinematic porn brand ERIKALUST.
To do the triceratops position, the receiver bends over, feet shoulder-length apart, and puts their arms behind their back. The penetrating partner pins down their arms to their sides, parallel to the ground, and penetrates from behind, either anally or vaginally. (Not sure if this is up your alley? Take a kink test to find out!)
“This is a fabulous position for people who enjoy dominance and submission,” says sex educator Rebecca Blanton, aka Auntie Vice, cohost of the Fat Chicks on Top podcast. “Having your arms pinned behind you (and possibly bound behind you) leaves the other person in control of how you’re penetrated, and the speed of the thrusting during the session.”
According to Clarke, the triceratops gives you lots of room for variation and experimentation. You can do it standing up or on your knees, and if you’re usually the receiving partner, it could give you the opportunity to take control. “Role reversal can add excitement to a seemingly submissive position, where the bottom can control the speed of movements and boss the top,” says Clarke. You can do this by having the penetrating partner stand still (or with their back against a wall) while the receiving partner moves their upper body back and forth. Think: as if they were bouncing up and down, just parallel to the ground.
Another pro to the triceratops? It lets the receiver control the depth of penetration. The receiving partner can position their legs apart while the penetrating partner stands between them, to allow for deep penetration, or they can close their legs together with their partner’s legs on the outside, to allow for shallower thrusts and penetration that can stimulate the inner walls of the vagina or anus, says Ruby Payne, sex expert at adult toy retailer UberKinky.
“If the penetrating partner is a multitasker, they can use one of their hands to hold both of the receiver’s hands and use their free hand to rub or stimulate the clit,” says Aliyah Moore, PhD, resident certified sex therapist at SexualAlpha.. “There are also vibrating sex toys that can do wonders on the clit. [If the penetrating partner has a penis], they can also put a wand vibrator’s broad tip around the receiver’s anus, perineum, or even under their own balls for intense sensations.”
Convinced yet? If yes, here are eight variations of the triceratops position you should try ASAP. Make sure to chat through boundaries and consent with your partner before diving in, especially because this position involves restraint elements and could be a little on the rougher side for some folks.
