All the Celebrity Couples Who Have Broken Up in 2023
This breakup list truly keeps getting longer. 😭
We’re halfway into 2023 and there have already been multiple (read: MANY) celebrity breakups. Obviously, one of those being Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval, whose breakup was so earth-shattering that people who had no idea who these two humans were five minutes ago now know everything about their personal lives, and I’m pretty sure Merriam-Webster is considering adding “Scandoval” to the dictionary. But aside from everything going on with Ariana, Tom, and Raquel “Actually Just Rachel” Leviss, there are several other pretty high-profile breakups to discuss—like, HELLO, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn, anyone?!??!?!? And there’s also her split from Matty Healy to discuss now too.
Other shout-outs include the sudden end of Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun’s engagement, Camila Cabello and Austin Kevitch calling it quits, and Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby parting ways after five years together. Keep clicking through to check out all the celebs who have broken up in 2023. And yes, we’ll inevitably/sadly be adding to this list as more couples split.
Some idea of how rough things could get in the coming months? Our list of 2022 breakups got as high as 51—and included major couples like Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde, Kendall Jenner and Devin Booker, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone, Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson, Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya, Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey, and, perhaps most shockingly, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet. Let’s get into 2023’s list.

TMZ reported that Ariana and Dalton are “heading for divorce” after Ariana was spotted without her wedding ring at Wimbledon this weekend. Per an Entertainment Tonight source, “Ariana and Dalton tried to make things work, but ultimately they were just not a good fit. Dalton has been very private and low-key about their relationship with his work colleagues and hasn’t been talking a lot about their split.”
July 2023: Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer
In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Dominic confirmed that he’s “done being in relationships right now” due to his struggle with codependency. July 2023: Adam Smith and Billy Porter
The former couple’s rep confirmed the sad news to People, saying in part, “The decision was an amicable and mutual one and was made after much consideration. We have tried to work privately on our relationship, which has been incredibly challenging in the public eye. This has been immensely hard to accept and painful, as there is a lot of love between the two of us. We are deeply hurting and can only ask that there be no hate. The best path for us at this time is to try and move forward and heal from this as individuals.”
May 2023: Christine Baumgartner and Kevin Costner
Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage, which Kevin Costner’s rep confirmed in a statement to People: “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

April 2023: Gigi Paris and Glen Powell
Despite rumors to the contrary (ahem), these two broke up because of long-distance, with a source telling People, “They had been on the rocks since Top Gun came out. Gigi was never happy with the long-distance filming, and when she came to Australia, they both decided to break up for good.”

May 2023: Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn
Entertainment Tonight reports that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have split up after six years of dating. The breakup went down “a few weeks ago” and was “not dramatic.” So…why the split? Apparently, “the relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Joe] hasn’t been spotted at any shows.”

Elle recently revealed that she and Max had called it quits after more than four years together in a candid interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK. I feel that it’s my destiny.” During the convo, Elle even opened up about how much she wants to have children someday. BRB, taking notes on how to maintain such a positive outlook after a breakup bc her whole vibe is just *chef’s kiss*.
